Currency
[edit]@Citobun: I feel that, since the resort is joint owned by an American company and the Hong Kong government, it is necessary to say the specific currency in every instance throughout the article. I personally was confused and wondering which currency the latest expansion's price was in. Elisfkc (talk) 17:33, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- I concur with Elisfkc on this question. I did indeed find the currency values confusing when reading an unadorned '$' symbol. This article is of specific interest to both audiences interested in Hong Kong and those interested in Disney theme parks, and particularly considering that this park is a joint venture, I think it would be useful to always disambiguate the currency as HKD or HK$, and I think this would fall within Wikipedia style. Scott Roy Atwood (talk) 21:23, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- Wikipedia style, per MOS:CURRENCY, is to disambiguate the first instance. It is not necessary to disambiguate every instance that the currency symbol occurs, per the MOS. Would we write "US$" every time a currency symbol appeared in a United States projects owned by a Hong Kong conglomerate, i.e. Brickell City Centre? Of course not. Citobun (talk) 02:57, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
- I realize it was a rhetorical question, but for what it is worth, I would be delighted for the Bricknell City Centre to use US$ throughout, since there is ambiguity due to the Homh Kong ownership. Scott Roy Atwood (talk) 03:41, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
- That is not Wikipedia style. Citobun (talk) 03:55, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Citobun: Wikipedia style is not a hard set rule, but more of a guideline. Per the top of MOS:CURRENCY "This guideline is a part of the English Wikipedia's Manual of Style. It is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply. Any substantive edit to this page should reflect consensus. When in doubt, discuss first on the talk page." Elisfkc (talk) 17:35, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
